Rose

Rose was born in Captivity in 2001 to a WC female who was collected gravid, from the Essequibo river delta in Guyana, South America. I purchased her from Matt Hunter of True Red Tails in Winter Park, FL. I lost contact with Matt several years ago and don't believe he's in the business anymore.

I purchased Rose for her pattern, head and facial markings, contrast, and tail. Only after arriving in my collection and starting the acclimation process, did her color become her most attractive characteristic. I began sharing Rose with the rest of the boa world via the popular boa forums online. Pictures of her beauty never ceased to draw positive comments from the members of the forum. She grew larger, and more beautiful as the years went on and she (not I) developed a sort of cult following among several BCC aficionados. My BCC collection grew and transformed over the years, but Rose never left.

In 2006, I decided that at over 5 years of age, at about 5.5' long and around 9 pounds, it was time to breed Rose. I cycled her in the fall, and introduced her suitors in early winter. I had three males in with her, however two were too young to accomplish anything and their existence was merely to act as a stimulant for the oldest male, and for Rose as well. Later that season, Rose delivered her first litter; 15 healthy baby boas! An aberrant male, no longer in my collection, sired that litter. Despite the pattern of the sire, the babies were not overly aberrant.

The following season of 2007-2008, Rose had gained back all of the weight she lost and seemed ready to breed again. This time, I paired her with Mr. Incredible. She produced 11 healthy baby boas, and one slug. This litter is regarded by most as one of the best BCC litters ever produced. There wasn't an ugly baby in the bunch - despite one male being named "ugly JB".

Rose earned a season off, then in 2009-2010 I paired her up again. The male to get the job done was Mr. Damn! This time, she produced 17 healthy baby boas and two slugs. Thus far, this appears to be the most colorful litter yet. Several of the babies were born with a blue coloration. One was born extremely pink, and the rest looked to be of normal boa color. All were beautiful. I'm going to offer some of these babies for sale in the first half of 2011. If you'd like to be notified when they're available, please let me know by emailing me your first and last name at jebrady03@gmail.com

To this day, I remember the feeling I had when I opened the shipping box in which Rose arrived. My hands were shaking, my body was trembling, and I could feel the excitement practically jumping from my core. I opened the bag and slid Rose out onto my shaking hand, and stood there with my mouth open. She was my first BCC, and I've been hooked ever since.
